 XL5

Fireball XL5-- The Complete Series Boxed Set-- DVD

Gerry Anderson's Supermarionation sci-fi classic, never before on DVD. Ever since its Saturday morning US TV debut in 1963, this has been a most-watched favorite of Anderson's, whose roster of great shows included UFO, Space 1999, Supercar, Captain Scarlet, and Thunderbirds. Here are all 39 black and white episodes on 5 DVDs with tons of extras. Retro Saturday morning fun in a box

 Supercar!

Supercar--The Complete Series Boxed Set-- DVD

Yeah, you can see the puppet strings, but these black and white shows actually look better on modern TVs than they did the first time around. All 39 episodes of the unforgettable early '60s Supermarionation show on five DVDs, loaded with extras. "It's the marvel of the age."

The Secret Service-- DVD

Easily the oddest addition to the Anderson cannon, but one of the most delightful. Combine Thunderbirds with The Prisoner and Chesterton's Father Brown, and you might get something like this. Father Unwin and special agent Matthew solve crimes and capers in the employ of B.I.S.H.O.P. Not only that, but Father Unwin has a secret shrinking ray, drives a 1917 roadster, and talks in a private language, called "Unwinese." All 13 color episodes.

Captain Scarlet-- DVD

Captain Scarlet VS the Mysterons. All 32 color episodes of this 1967 series on 4 discs.

Stingray-- DVD

All 39 color episodes of this underwater adventure on five discs.

Terrahawks-- DVD

Following live action successes, UFO and Space 1999, Anderson returned to Supermarionation with this 1983 series. All 39 episodes on 5 discs.

Joe 90-- DVD

Another little-known Anderson show, this Supermarionation spy series falls between Captain Scarlet and Secret Service in the line-up. 30 episodes on 4 discs.

UFO-- DVD

1970 brought this foray into live action. Sets for this cult classic resemble the British film, Moon Zero Two. 26 episodes on 8 discs.

Space 1999-- DVD

What more can be said about this imaginative and stylish live-action sci-fi series? All 48 episodes in color on 16 discs.

Dr. Who: The Key to Time-- The Complete Adventure-- DVD

Everyone knows the other doctors have been on video and DVD for a while, but the Tom Baker shows have been slower coming over. But the Doctor is finally in and will see you now--or rather you'll see the Doctor on this giant six DVD boxed set with a gazillion extras. Camp out in the Tardis for The Ribos Operation, The Pirate Planet, The Stones of Blood, The Androids of Tara, The Power of Kroll, and The Armageddon Factor.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy-- DVD

Don't Panic! Have another pangalactic gargleblaster and kick back with this double DVD delight. Don't forget to bring a towel along and your super-etha thumb as you snag a ride on the Heart of Gold and head off for lunch at Milliway's. Douglas Adams' increasingly misnamed trilogy made it from radio show to these hilarious low-budget Britcom shows made with way more heart than money. These shows aired stateside on PBS in the early '80s, long predating the recent Disney movie. At last, here's a continuous DVD of all six BBC shows without the annoying interruptions of a telethon. The default setting is for stereo TV, so viewers with mono TV need to change the setup to "mono" to get all the sound. That's a tip from an Amazon reviewer. Rating: mostly harmless.
