From 1958 comes the
loveable hound

award for a cartoon show, and no wonder, with his sidekicks Pixie and
Dixie and Mr. Jinks, and hey, hey, hey--Yogi Bear and Boo Boo. Four DVD
set of the original cartoons as shown on the Boomerang channel.

Apartments comes the original space- age family. 24 episodes on 4
discs. Commentary by Janet Waldo, the voice of Judy Jetson. This
groundbreaking prime time show moved after one season into syndication
and Saturday morning, where it ran for fourteen years. Hanna-Barbera's
triumph of "limited animation."
The
Flintstones:
The Complete First
Season-- DVD
All
28 episodes
on 4
discs of 1960's "Modern Stone Age Family." The first season of
Hanna-Barbera's prime time success introduces a rougher Fred, voiced by
Alan Reed and drawn from Jackie Gleason in "The Honeymooners." Much of
what seems like "classic Flintstones" wouldn't appear until later
seasons. Until The Simpsons, The Flintstones was the longest running
animated prime time show.

Garfield
and
Friends Vol. 1--
DVD
Too much
Garfield is never enough, but here's a good start. From 1988,
this long- running Saurday morning syndicated
show featured stars from both Garfield and Jim Davis' other comic
strip, U.S. Acres. As with Peanuts, the show is paced like the comics,
slow and leisurely, with lots of slapstick and sight gags. Garfield
talks to the viewers, interacts with Orson Pig and other U.S. Acres
characters and forgets his lines. Twenty four shows on three discs,
each consisting of two Garfield and one U.S. Acres cartoon (that's 72
cartoons!), plus brief "Garfield Quickies" (sort of like Lulubites on
The Little Lulu Show). Don't look for the excellent openings, though
("and pies of...all sizes"). While this season's opening has some of
the same animation, it can best be described as "in development."
Hopefully the later volumes will feature the better-known opening. Play
one of these shows every day for your kids, and it will be just like
it's "on" TV.
Garfield and Friends Vol.
2-- DVD
The
good news is that the familiar "we're ready to party, we're ready"
theme song and opening animation appear two-thirds of the way through
these shows, and replace the inferior and annoying opening on volume
one. More great times down on the farm with U.S. Acres and at the table
with our furry friend Odie and flabby tabby Garfield. (To order or for
more information, click on the picture).
Garfield and Friends
Vol. 3--DVD
Familiar to fans
from its long run on Fox affiliate channels, here are yet more animated
antics of Jim Davis' mischevous menagerie. And look out for Monday! (To
order or for more information, click on the picture).
Garfield
and Friends Vol. 4--
DVD.
Too much Garfield is
never enough,
so here's more.
Garfield
and Friends Vol. 5-- DVD.
Another
helping of the only cure
for Mondays. The only down side is you have to skip through a few ads
every time.

Nicktoons
Christmas--
DVD
Seasonal
collections tend to be a mixed bag, but if you own any holiday
cartoons, you know they get played over and over, along with your
seasonal CDs, every year. Until the Hanna-Barbera Yogi Bear specials
come out again, these will have to do. If you saw the Rugrats Passover
special, you know how good cartoons can be. Here's some yuletide cheer
courtesy of Songebob, Rugrats, Fairly Odd Parents, and Rocket Power.
